God is always a step (or two) ahead of us! Here we are in the DAWN movement-praying for, training, and equipping the present generation of church planters, while God is already at work preparing the next generation.
And he is using mothers to prepare the way!
Two Brazilian women were inspired when they saw a children's prayer team in action at the 1995 GCOWE conference in Seoul, Korea. This was just a small part of a children's prayer movement that has been growing in recent years and is said to number over 2 million praying children from every continent.
The two moms went back to Brazil with a vision to challenge 30,000 mothers to pray a very specific prayer for their children-that they would hear God's call into mission, and become a harvest force for the future. This movement, called "Awake Deborah," spread quickly throughout Brazil, so that in six months, 25,000 mothers were involved in praying for their children to hear God's call.
In 1998 June Richards, a church leader from Manchester, England, caught the vision from the Brazilians and launched "Deborah Arise Europe (DAE)." Through regular newsletters, a website and personal contact, European women are encouraged to fast and pray for their children the first three days of each month. Like the Brazilians, they are also committed to pray that their young people will have passion for Jesus and missionary hearts.
Richards was joined by Linda Holt, Jenny Shaw and administrator Maggie Goodman, and now Deborah Arise Europe is spreading at a rapid pace. The first open door outside of the UK was into Germany. Currently, it is also growing in Spain, Holland, and Romania, with links developing in France, Poland, Russia and Scandinavia.
Recently God told Richards that this movement was for the world (rather than just Europe), and DAE has spread into many African nations and Australia. It has also linked with a number of international prayer and missionary initiatives involving young people.
DAE women are also linking up with young leaders who have a calling to help raise up an army of young people. Recently they joined with a young German intercessor from a youth church in Dresden in praying for a cross-church mission to the youth of his city. Two hundred young people joined Alpha groups in that time.
God is working through children. A team of Australian child intercessors, ages 9 to 16 years toured the UK a short time ago. They spent their time praying and leading sessions for other children on worship and intercession, encouraging the children and young people forward in their own spiritual gifting.
With mothers praying for young people to have warrior hearts and to be leaders today and in the future, we can expect to see it happen!
